Carlos Montané
Tenor

Born in Havana, Cuba; he made his professional debut in 1961, at the age of twenty-three, in the role of the Duca di Mantova in Verdi’s ‘Rigoletto’, which he has now performed more than 300 times all over the world. In Carlos’ long and distinguished career, he has sung with major opera companies, including the Metropolitan Opera, becoming the first Cuban ever to sing with them, in Germany, Austria, France, Norway, Spain, Italy, Hungary, former Yugoslavia, Ireland, Great Britain, India, Pakistan, Arabian Gulf countries, Egypt, South Africa, South Korea, Hong Kong, Colombia, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Brazil, Canada, and the United States. He has performed for presidents (Lyndon Johnson), Prime ministers (Indira Gandhi), and audiences of fifty thousand (New York Yankees’ opening season of 1965).

Since 1986, he is a professor in the Voice Faculty at the Indiana University School of Music. He founded and directed the “Summer Program for Opera Singers” in Piobbico, Italy, and has presented Master Classes in the U.S., Canada, Costa Rica, Germany, Italy, Austria, Russia, and South Korea.

Carlos is an Honorary Member of the “World Gourmet Club” and the “Chaîne des Rôtisseurs”.
