 Born in Matanzas, Cuba; Hilda made her professional debut at an early age in the role of Carolina in the Spanish Zarzuela “Luisa Fernanda”. Her debut with the Teatro Lirico Nacional (Cuban National Opera) was in the role of Lucia in “Lucia di Lammermoor”. Other roles with this company include: Mussetta in “La Bohème”, Adina in “Elisir d’Amore”, Gilda in “Rigoletto”, Norina in “Don Pasquale”, Elvira in “I Puritani”, and Queen of the Night in “Die Zauberflöte”.
Miss del Castillo is at home in the Spanish and Cuban Zarzuelas, as well as in Operettas. She has performed the leading soprano roles in “La Tabernera del Puerto”, “La Rosa del Azafran”, “Los Gavilanes”, “Lola Cruz”, “Amalia Batista”, “Cecilia Valdes”, “Maria La O”, “Die Fledermaus”, “Lustige Witwe”, as well as the title role in the only Spanish opera, “Marina”. She was admired in Mexico City in Weber’s musical “Phantom of the Opera”, and has appeared with many theaters in Colombia, Brazil, Peru, and Costa Rica. She also participated in a tour of Spain, Portugal, and Austria, with the show “Mi Querida Habana” (My beloved Havana).
